We held our AGM this morning, considering the Reports and Accounts both of Lammermuir Church and of Morham & Garvald Church for 2024, preceding the union of both on 1st January this year. Thanks were given to the elders, Session Clerks and particularly Treasurers of both congregations.
The minister said, 'As you know, at the beginning of the year, the former congregation of Morham and Garvald became part of the wider Lammermuir Church, which now spans the bigger area of seven villages. As we consider the reports and Accounts for 2024, we have two sets today: one for Lammermuir Parish and its work last year, and one for Morham and Garvald, both preceding the union which took place on 1st January 2025. Many thanks to all elders, office bearers and supporters in both legacy congregations and of course in the continuing united congregation for all their work, which is so varied and which often remains out of public sight: our reports and accounts give a picture, and that’s good, but they can’t portray the depth and width of all the work done as part and on behalf of our church, so heartfelt thanks to everyone who is part of this work and ministry. The report outlining our ministry in 2024 is of course available to you all, so I won’t go into detail here. We have had a positive first year as Lammermuir Church, uniting from Humbie Church and Yester Bolton and Saltoun church, and leading on smoothly to the union at the beginning of this year with Morham and Garvald Church. We have an active congregation with weekly services as well as additional services at various points during the year, including an outdoor service again in the summer. We have a high level of community engagement through various groups, initiatives and care home and school work, and we have been supporting a good number of charities again over the year. We were able to give thanks for the long service of four elders last year, Bill Swan, Jim McDougal, Percy Craigie and Paul Sales. We are also grateful for all the service of two elders who have decided to retire from active eldership, Janice Dagg and Hamish Gibson. And we were deeply saddened and give thanks for the lives of Jim Patterson and Bill Swan, two of our elders, and the lives of all of our members who have died this past year. I think it’s fair to say that we are a community-minded church, rooted firmly within our local setting, and we are continuing to develop and identify ways in which we can serve and be the church in our parish.' Wendy Ferguson, the Treasurer, thanked all members for the generosity in donations and in supporting our fundraising. A copy of the narrative report of Lammermuir Church can be found here.
