ABOUT US

CONGREGATION

We are a Church of Scotland congregation of mixed ages and outlooks, meeting together as the local church to celebrate God's love for the world. Most of us live in and around the villages of Bolton, Garvald, Gifford, Humbie, Morham, and East and West Saltoun.

Here is what a few of us think about our church:
  • "I think our church is friendly and forward-looking and part of the local community."
  • "Our church is a small, beautiful old Scottish church, our services are down-to-earth and relevant to life today. We all know each other and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive."
Here you can find out more about the HISTORY of our church.

MINISTER

Rev Anikó Schütz Bradwell, our minister, was ordained into the parishes of Humbie and Yester, Bolton and Saltoun in 2015.

Please get in touch with her, and let her know if she can be of help, and also what you like about the church, and what you miss, what you would wish to see and experience.

Her ministry training included taking a Bachelor of Divinity degree at New College in Edinburgh, as well as placements at various churches around Edinburgh and at St Andrew's Church in Jerusalem, before her probation placement at Corstorphine Old Parish Church.

Anikó came to Scotland in 2006 from Germany, after gaining BA and MA degrees in Literature and Religious Studies at the University of Erfurt. In the past she has worked with the Taizé Community in France and Italy, at the Abbey on the Isle of Iona, with the L'Arche Community in Edinburgh and with the Climate Change Project of the Church of Scotland, in 121 George Street.

She
has served as one of the inaugural Assembly Trustees of the Church of Scotland, and Convener of the Iona Community Board, as member of the Ecumenical Relations Committee and the World Mission Council and the Advisory Group of Christian Aid Scotland, and represented the Church of Scotland at a number of international ecumenical conferences and assemblies.

She is married to David, and they have a young son, and many many pets.

KIRK SESSION

CHURCH OF SCOTLAND

Our congregation works under the unitary constitution, which means that all areas of church life - worship, pastoral care, buildings, finance, outreach etc - fall under the care of the Kirk Session.

The full Session meets quarterly, and different aspects of its work are overseen by specific workign groups.

Here is what some of our elders say about serving on the Session:
  • "For me, this is a role to put my love of God into action; to help in the smooth running of the church in support of the minister; to be beside those in need, especially in difficult times of illness and bereavement."
  • "Being an elder gives me the opportunity to serve God in a community and a building that mean a great deal to me and help to sustain my life. I work as part of an interesting – and challenging! – team to support our minister and help her to take forward God's vision for the church."
  • "Being an elder means being able to translate Christian witness into action by working with others and for others."
The vision of the Church of Scotland is to be a church which seeks to inspire the people of Scotland and beyond with the Good News of Jesus Christ through enthusiastic worshipping, witnessing, nurturing and serving communities.

The Church works ecumenically with other Christian denominations and works together with other faiths and beliefs.
